How to fix abnormal memory card issues
- Memory-card checks
Check the exact model's supported card type, capacity and file system, and distinguish a card-status error from missing recordings or failed playback. Preserve accessible footage before changing storage.
If reseating is appropriate, power off the camera before removing or inserting the card, then restore power and check its status. A known-good compatible card can help narrow down the problem.
Formatting is a later targeted step, not the first remedy. It erases recordings and should only proceed after a backup where possible and acceptance of data loss. Use the file system specified for the model; computer formatting is not automatically required.
Failure with multiple cards does not prove that the slot is defective. Compatibility, power, card status and device logs may need review. After a change, confirm that a new recording can be written and played; recognition alone is insufficient.
